"Bucha" is an artistic film that tells the true story of a citizen of Kazakhstan, Kostiantyn Hudauskas, who saved over 200 civilians during the Russian occupation of Kyiv region, including the famous Ukrainian composer Ihor Poklada and his family. The film shows the courage and unity of Ukrainians at the beginning of the war.
The world premiere of the film took place in the main competition of the 40th anniversary Warsaw Film Festival where "Bucha" took second place in audience ratings among 57 films, second only to the Polish film "Where Do We Begin" by Monika Majorek.
The film "Bucha" is a unique project because the producers refused state funding from the very beginning. The film was made on donations and private investments from concerned individuals from Ukraine, Poland, Canada, and the USA.
The leading Ukrainian actors played roles in the film: Viacheslav Dovzhenko, Artemiy Yegorov, Serhiy Strel'nykov, Oleksandr Pecheritsa, Anastasiya Nesterenko, Nikon Fedotov, Serhiy Smiyan, Tetiana Vashnevska, and others. The famous Polish actor of theater and cinema Tsezariy Lukashevich played the main role of Kostiantyn.
The director of the film, Stanislav Tiunov, was previously a producer of the romantic comedy "Meeting in Vegas"; "Bucha" is his first full-length film as a director.
Stanislav says: "The film explores profound philosophical meanings, emphasizing love and resilience over fear and aggression."
The producer and screenwriter of the film, Oleksandr Shchur, is one of the leading screenwriters in Ukraine.
Oleksandr says: "When I learned about the story of a Lithuanian Jew from Kazakhstan who, instead of leaving, decided to save Ukrainians from occupation, I immediately realized that this is a story that will resonate with audiences anywhere in the world."
