Biographical films, or as they are now called "biopics," have become particularly popular in recent times. Until the 1950s, films were mainly made in cinema, the plots of which revolved around the activities of famous politicians and personalities associated with war - films about the founding fathers, Queen Victoria, Napoleon and Joan of Arc. In the Soviet space, these were primarily films about the events of World War II and dedicated to heroic exploits. After the 1950s, traditional biopic canons were broken. People were tired not only of violence, wars and sacrifices, but also of "well-behaved" cinema. The best biographical films were made just after this break. New biopics not only told about events, but also engaged in research of life and psychology not of a courageous hero, but of an ordinary person, with all its shortcomings and contradictions. Gradually, politics was replaced by pop culture - actors, musicians and artists with heart dramas and spiritual tragedies became cult figures. From the 2000s, new biographical films expanded the circle of characters even more - in addition to politicians ("Iron Lady" or "Che") and art figures ("Frida", "Control", "Legend of the Pianist"), biopics about gangsters ("Cocaine"), sportsmen, personalities related to IT ("Jobs", "Fifth Power", "Social Network") and public activists ("Erin Brockovich," "Suffragettes") appeared.
