Plot
The most mystical film by Paradjanov: "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" is coming back
to the big screens from May 29th!
Starting from May 29th, Ukrainian cinemas will showcase the restored version of the iconic film by Sergiy Paradjanov "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". It has been recognized as the best in the world in terms of technology, and the restoration was made possible through the collaboration of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio (Ukraine) and The Film Foundation World Cinema Project (Italy). The Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio has been a center for production and preservation of Ukrainian film culture for many years, and this unique film was shot there. The film restoration utilized state-of-the-art technologies, allowing audiences to see the movie in the highest quality.
The film tells the story of two warring Hutsul families, but amidst this tragedy, a bright and pure love blossoms, leaving a mark in the heart of everyone. The film not only narrates a tale of love and tragedy but also showcases the unique culture and nature of Ukraine. The restoration of this film is a significant event for the entire Ukrainian cinematography. The celebration of the 100th anniversary of Sergiy Paradjanov by UNESCO and the restoration of the film are evidence of how Ukraine's rich cultural heritage captivates the world.
