Plot

Ahmed is a 15-year-old shepherd living in a remote village in North Macedonia, a place governed by religion and traditions. After the death of his mother, his younger brother stops speaking, his authoritarian father becomes even harsher, and Ahmed is left to tend to the sheep daily. The only thing that saves him from this routine is music. One day, while herding his sheep, he accidentally stumbles upon a nighttime rave in the forest, an event that splits his life into "before" and "after."

This is a sincere and witty coming-of-age story about self-discovery and music as a means of breaking free from imposed expectations. The film earned a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It partially features non-professional actors, which added authenticity and persuasiveness to the story. The stunning landscapes of the Balkan mountains make it easy to imagine a similar story unfolding in the setting of the Carpathian Mountains.
