Adventure films, although having key features of other genres such as historical, western, or action, are self-sufficient in their own right. The setting and actions can vary, and there is no limit to the time period - recently, films about time travel have become popular (e.g. "Midnight in Paris," "Interstellar"). Notably, adventure films have a minimal amount of violence or overly graphic scenes, and the plot revolves around the main character who is described in a positive light, albeit often with some hidden but significant flaws. The hero fights against the antagonist or overcomes insurmountable obstacles, not only through physical strength (which is necessary) but also through superb creativity and ingenuity. The best adventure films, which are already considered classics, are very similar to historical films. The antagonists are brave knights and musketeers, pirates and reformers. The backdrop for the development of events is Europe from the 16th to the 19th century or the era of the Great Geographical Discoveries - new adventure films tell stories of colonization, alternate history, or pirate raids ("Gladiator," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Lord of the Rings"). The main focus of such films is the courage and honesty of the heroes who, despite all the difficulties, remain an example and evoke admiration. In doing so, the characters can be both fictional ("Django Unchained," "Indiana Jones") and historical figures ("The Adventures of Robin Hood," "The Mask of Zorro," "The Revenant").
