Documentary cinema is a genre that is based on the stories of real people and real events. The best documentaries are made about celebrities, cultural, political and historical figures, scientific facts or theories. Although documentaries belong to non-fiction cinema, they may include stagings and reenactments, for example, if the film is dedicated to history. New documentary films should pursue several goals - scientific research, or an educational tool, or a journalistic work. Documentary films are very difficult to create because they require collecting and processing a large amount of information that will be interesting and close to the audience. The distinctive features of this genre are the use of archival footage, voice-over, chronicles and interviews, natural lighting and static shooting. One of the first films - "Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat" - can be considered a classic of documentary cinema, a film that was made at the end of the 19th century and gave the genre a start. Today, there are several hybrids - docudrama is focused on the reproduction of historical events. Documentary dramas resemble scientific-popular films, a good example of which are BBC series. The second subgenre is mockumentaries that have taken the construction of the plot and aesthetics of documentary cinema as a basis, but describe fantastic events.
